One of the great pleasures in life is reading and a really good book often provides visual and textual inspiration. My current favourites are ‘Why we make things and why it matters’ by Peter Korn published 2013 and ’18th Century Embroidery Techniques’ by Gail Marsh, published in 2006 by The Guild of Master Craftsmen. I found the book by chance at Judith Mansfield’s stand at the Knitting and Stitching show at Harrogate 2016. Perfect reading about an opulent world of hand embroidery for autumn nights.
Some of my favourites are:
- Landmarks by Robert Macfarlane, Hamish Hamilton, 2015.
- Connemara The Last Pool of Darkness, Tim Robinson, 2008, Penguin, Ireland.
- A Book of Silence, Sara Maitland, 2008, Granta, UK.
